INITIATIVE PETITIONS

In Florida, it is the people's right to propose amendments to the Florida Constitution through an initiative petition process. Throughout the year, we verify hundreds of initiative petitions signed by Calhoun County voters. The sponsors of these initiative petitions must obtain a required number of valid signatures in order for their initiative to be placed on a General Election ballot. A petition must be signed by 766,200 voters in order to meet that placement. The signatures must come from at least 14 of Florida's 27 congressional districts. A proposed amendment requires at least 60% approval from voters to pass.

Pursuant to Florida Statute 100.371(11)b., Calhoun County's actual cost of signature verification of an initiative petition is $0.25.

More information on Florida's petition process, including a list of current initiatives, can be found by clicking here.
